Uri Harel’s Monday Night Hebrew Class Farewell Party
Last night, (Monday 2/13/2012) a party was held in honor of a dear friend Uri Harel who is moving back to Israel.
UPDATE! I added Pat Power’s Photo Album, see below at the bottom
I just want to say that I really respect Uri. I had attended his Monday night Hebrew class on a regular basis since 1995. What an honor and great opportunity it was to learn from a Jewish person who was born in Israel and whose native tongue was Hebrew. It is hard for me to fully appreciate how much I gleaned from him because of his passion for the Hebrew language and the Torah and his willingness to teach.
Most people in America, like myself, are raised up speaking English and are also taught scripture (if they are taught scriptures at all) from only a Christian perspective. To read the Word of God in it’s original language was something that was not taught. Uri’s Monday night class was very simple but also very powerful. It did not mater where you came from or what your religious beliefs were, all that matter was that you had the same passion. The “secret” was to let the scriptures speak for itself and to define its meaning without regard to the religious filters of Rabbinical Judaism or Christianity. I dare say there is not to many people in this world who, like Uri, are willing to make this opportunity available to people like myself. An opportunity such that all would gather together to study and not let preconceived religious ideas get in the way. Simple. Powerful.
I will miss not only Uri but his wife Bruya and the wonderful times we all had together at their house celebrating the Shabbath. The Friday night dinners and the great discussions on the scriptures that followed was a real joy.
Below is a photo album from pictures I took. The party was graciously hosted by Marsha in her beautiful home. All who had attended had a great time as did I. Before I show the photos I want to quote a verse from the scripture by a most famous rabbi that is apropo to Uri.
“For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the Torah, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”
Farewell Uri, may our heavenly father bless you and have his face shine upon you and your family.
